FIR filed in Nitin Desai's death case against Edelweiss Group and several of its employees

Nitin Desai, a popular Bollywood-Marathi art director, committed suicide and was discovered hanging at his ND Studios.

FIR filed in Nitin Desai's death case against Edelweiss Group and several of its employees.

Earlier this week, the industry was shocked to learn of the death of one of the country's most prominent art directors, Nitin Chandrakant Desai, who is believed to have committed himself. His wife, Neha Desai, filed a case at Raigad police station against four members of the Edelweiss Group for harassing Desai and compelling him to take this action.

According to reports, the police have filed a FIR against the company's members as well as the chairman on grounds of abetting the suicide.

According to sources, Neha Desai named chairman Rashesh Shah, RK Bansal of Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company, Smit Shah and Keur Mehta from the company, as well as NCLT interim resolution professional Jitendra Kothari, in her statement to Khalapur Police Station. According to these accounts, Mrs. Desai supplied voice notes supposedly left by Nitin Chandrakant Desai before his death to the police, who then filed this FIR.

Nitin Desai had obtained roughly Rs. 180 crores between 2016 and 2018, and is anticipated to have defaulted on the payment since 2020, equating to Rs. 252 crores that he currently owes Edelweiss Finance.

According to recent reports, Neha Desai stated that these employees intended to take over the ND Studios, which was mortgaged as collateral for the financing. According to these sources, Mrs. Desai accused the ECL group of pressuring Desai and even refusing to take his calls when the art director wanted to alert them about three investors willing to invest in the studio. According to sources, Desai revealed in one of his voice notes that a plot was being developed to kill him.

Desai further accused the NCLT interim professional of sending bouncers to their home to scare her and her family with taking custody of studios on Sunday in her police statement.

Edelweiss Group, on the other hand, has denied the charges and vowed their full assistance in the case in a statement made a day ago.

Celebrities such as filmmakers Amir Khan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Madhur Bhandarkar and Suparn Verma, as well as actors Riteish Deshmukh, Parineeti Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, and Neil Nitin Mukesh have expressed their sympathies.
